As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  1. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their articles in electronic format (if illustrations are added, please use a 300 dpi resolution).
  2. Although we do not want to impose a single style sheet, Image (&) narrative prefers either the MLA style sheet or the Chicago style sheet, with parenthetical references to a final bibliography. We also prefer footnotes to endnotes.
  3. Authors willing to use illustrations must themselves take care of the necessary authorizations. In principle, we can only publish images for which the rights have been cleared (or which are in the public domain).
  4. As an average length, we prefer articles of more or less 5000 words (notes and bibliography included), but slightly shorter ones are acceptable.
  5. Image (&) Narrative only publishes original material, which has not been submitted elsewhere.
  6. All authors always keep the feel copyright of their articles, which they can reuse or reprint without any problem. However, a mention of their first publication in the journal will be highly appreciated.
